Hierarchical Bayesian models of length-specific catchability of research trawl surveys

To estimate absolute abundance from research trawl surveys, the catchability of the fish to the gear must be known or estimated. Using 47 data sets of length-specific catchability, we conducted a hierarchical Bayesian metaanalysis of length-specific catchability for a number of different species groups. It was found that the Bayesian estimates of catchability were seldom near or above 1 for any species or size. This suggests that any assumption that swept-area abundance estimates are in fact absolute abundance would likely underestimate the true abundance. Catchability was higher for haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) than for Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) of the same size, suggesting behavioural differences between these two species. We found a seasonal difference in catchability with higher catchability for surveys in summer–fall than for those in spring–winter. The results of this study can be applied both for the reconstruction of fish community structure for ecosystem models and as auxiliary (or prior) information for single-species stock assessment where catchability is estimated within the stock assessment procedure. Analysis of Hierarchical Bayesian Models for Large Space Time Data of the Housing Prices in Tehran
Housing price data is correlated to their location in different neighborhoods and their correlation is type of spatial (location). The price of housing is varius in different months, so they also have a time correlation. Spatio-temporal models are used to analyze this type of the data. An important purpose of reviewing this type of the data is to fit a suitable model for the spatial-temporal an...
The Analysis of Bayesian Probit Regression of Binary and Polychotomous Response Data
The goal of this study is to introduce a statistical method regarding the analysis of specific latent data for regression analysis of the discrete data and to build a relation between a probit regression model (related to the discrete response) and normal linear regression model (related to the latent data of continuous response). This method provides precise inferences on binary and multinomia...
Bycatch of lined seahorses (Hippocampus erectus) in a Gulf of Mexico shrimp trawl fishery
Bycatch studies have largely ignored population level effects on fish species of little commercial interest. Here we analyze bycatch of the lined seahorse (Hippocampus erectus) in the bait-shrimp trawl fishery in Hernando Beach, Florida, providing the first fisheries data for this species. Based on catch per unit of effort (CPUE), size, sex, and reproductive status of trawled H. erectus, 1) app...
A hierarchical model to estimate fish abundance in alpine streams by using removal sampling data from multiple locations.
The author compares 12 hierarchical models in the aim of estimating the abundance of fish in alpine streams by using removal sampling data collected at multiple locations. The most expanded model accounts for (i) variability of the abundance among locations, (ii) variability of the catchability among locations, and (iii) residual variability of the catchability among fish. Eleven model reductio...
Appendix 5 . the Casa Length Structured Stock Assessment
The stock assessment model described here is based on Sullivan et al.’s (1990) CASA model. CASA is entirely length-based with population dynamic calculations in terms of the number of individuals in each length group during each year. Age is largely irrelevant in model calculations. Unlike many other length-based stock assessment approaches, CASA is a dynamic, non-equilibrium model based on a f...
